SpotlightFS

A while ago I enthused about MacFUSE, which allows you to load new file systems easily under Mac OS X. Since then sshfs (which lets you mount remote file systems using ssh) has become indispensable.

Today I noticed another example file system, which is less obviously useful, but probably not a bad resource for shell scripting – SpotlightFS. This creates a new volume, called SpotlightFS, in which you create a directory with the name of your search term. Then, if you look inside that directory, you’ll find the results of a spotlight search for that term. Not earth shattering, but quite neat.
