The wonderful world of Internet telephony

28 Mar 2005

Talking to people over the Internet is nothing new - I’ve been using iChat AV to chat to various Jonathans I know for a while now. But yesterday I finally followed up Huw’s recommendation and installed Skype, which has cross platform support, and thus should let me talk to more people. I spent a while chatting with Andy last night and it all seemed to work well, though I seem to recall that the quality on iChat AV was slightly better, but that might just be my faded memory. Anyway, if you’re Skype enabled then let me know so I can add you to my contacts list. Finding me should be easy as I seem to be one of the few people that put their details into skype so people could search for me.

Skype also claims to work with real phones - in that you can call a normal phone network from skype on a pay-as-you-go basis. Not tried that, but looks like Skype is trying to go the whole hog VoIP wise.
