Teaching people to speak 'Wegie

10 Apr 2004

The Citizen’s Advice Bureau in the Maryhill area of Glasgow are going to be teaching people new to the area the local slang (which is plentiful :). I’ve been trying to educate my officemates some of the local patter, with choice words such as ‘mingin’ (disgusting), ‘hawfin’ (that’s probably a terrible spelling, but I’ve never had cause to write that one down before (it means disgusting too)), ‘glaekit’ (idiot (usually referring to someones blank look)), and simply using swearing as a form of punctuation :D.
