Life update

10 Feb 2004

Sorry for not updating more of late - between the new job and being back in Glasgow last weekend things have been quite hectic, and most evenings I lack the energy to write anything. The job is good - I’m settling in at the lab now, and I’m just enjoying being somewhere new. The atmosphere at the computer lab is quite different from the department at Glasgow, or at least my view of it from being in the systems group is. I’d not like to try and say which is better, just that they’re different. Certainly the atmosphere in the group is a lot more driven, but then I was the last of the systems people really when I was writing up, so there wasn’t a group of people to drive each other, where as here there is.

I’m still trying to get to grips with my role in the TAPAS project. I’ve been reading like mad, and I still have a lot of reading to do. Next week I’m off to a group project meeting in Bologna, so hopefully that’ll help lots, meeting all the other people on the project. But even though I’m the only TAPAS RA at Cambridge, I don’t have the same sense of loneliness that I had at Glasgow on my last project, mostly because I think Jon (my boss) is enthusiastic about the project, which makes me feel enthusiastic too.

Oh, and if you’re reading this and you’ve mailed me about osx2x, I’m sorry for not replying promptly, but I’ve just been too tired/busy at the moment to face it. But hopefully I can clear that backlog this weekend!
