Hotels are weird

22 Jun 2003

I’m writing this in the bar at the Huntington Towers Hotel (coffee only mind), and it strikes me what a weird place hotels are. The bar here has every available surface not showing nice wood finished covered in tartan. It’s deeply scary. I just hate the hotel experience, as I’m never at ease letting someone else do something for me that I’m perfectly capable of doing myself (with the possible exception of doing the dishes…). I’m sure all this tartan makes the American tourists feel at home, but I think the world does need hotels that try less hard.
