One way or the other

When I was younger, I was something of your typical nerdish social outcast. Being a computer whizz and a social star don’t often go together well. I was in with all the latest tech developments, but knew nothing about who was doing what.

But the world has moved on: now I find I’m a social outcast because I don’t know about all the latest computer things.

At breakfast this morning Laura told me all about what one of my other close friends had been up to and I didn’t know anything about it. How did she know all this? By using Facebook – one of the many social networking sites on the web today. She knew all about my friend Steffi’s recent trip to Iceland, and even showed me videos from it. She knew about John’s recent trip to the dentists that ended in a wisdom tooth extraction before I did.

All good stuff, but I feel I’ve gone from being not with it because I used computers too much to being not with it because I don’t use computers enough. When did this happen?!?

Perhaps sign #723 that I’m getting old. Laura’s Mum kindly reminded me that I am in my fourth decade after all… :)
