Hair cut stress

16 Jun 2006

Hmmm. So, I’ve never been particularly stylish – and certainly my hair has either been very long (no one cuts it) or quite short (barbers cut it). But now my hair is vaguely shoulder length and I want it to remain that way, so I figured it was time to venture into a hair stylists and get it cut in a more, er, interesting way I guess.

The problem here I suspect is a language barrier. I went along to Toni & Guy and got it cut by a “Top Stylist” and hoped that would result in something vaguely passable. However, I attempted to articulate vaguely what I wanted and my top stylist used words the meaning of which I didn’t really grok. So she set about her task, and in the end I was left with slightly shorter hair, which is what I wanted to some approximation, but I had hoped for it to also look nice. However, the only comment I’ve had thus far was from Madeleine, who upon seeing me today her first words were “you paid for that?!?” – I take it from this my attempt to be fashionable has failed somewhat badly.

I guess there’s two paths here – either I give up and just alternate between very long and short hair, or I keep at it until I manage to crack this whole hair lingo thing. Until then, if you need me, I’ll be the guy with the paper bag over his head. Annoyingly my motorbike still hasn’t been returned to me, so it’s not as if I have an excuse to cover it up with my crash helmet :(
