Flight to nowhere again?

14 Aug 2006

After the weekend’s failed attempt to leave the country, tomorrow I’m trying again. This time I have a 5.30 am pickup for my 10 am flight to PDX via SFO on United – let’s see if I can make it this time (the first hop is UA0955 if you want to see if I made it or not – though if you figure out how to work the Dashboard flight tracker widget then you’re more deserving of a seat on the magic bus than I). If all goes to plan (which I doubt it will) I should get to PDX by 5.20pm, and the IR symposium starts at 7pm up at Skamania Lodge, which is apparently a 45 minute drive away (doesn’t say if that’s at rush hour or not). Oh well, I’ll be a little late getting in, but at least I’ll be there for the most part.

At the moment I’m waiting for the tumble drier to stop so I can go to bed and get up at some unsavoury hour. At least the hand baggage restrictions will have been eased by the time I get to the airport, so I can take books on board with me.

The real challenge of the not being able to leave the country on Saturday has been the number of people that came up to me today and all said exactly the same thing: “What are you doing here? Aren’t you meant to be in the States?….” – like do these people not watch the news?! Kids today etc.

Anyway, dear reader, I shall away and leave you in peace, and perhaps even leave the country in peace, who knows.

If you have been, then thank you for being so observant.
