A very rough take on some music in the style of this delta blues player. I love the sound of this kind of blues, so it’s mind blowing that I can even play something vaguely in this style.
First day back on the guitar in almost a week, and my finger still isn’t fully healed, so a day of just gently getting back into things. Prize to anyone who can identify the opening riff.
Still can’t play, so going back to basics. I can never remember which is a minim or a crotchet…
Still can’t play properly, so still frustrating myself trying to learn to use identify intervals. A common but if advice is to try and match an interval into a known phrase in a song, and these are the ones that I was taught for that. It’s not helping much :)
I can hear when I hit a bum note when playing, but I can’t do much more than that. I certainly can’t tune by ear or follow a solo. Being off the guitar due to injury is a chance to think about such things.
Today I Practiced: reading up on theory
I hurt my hand yesterday, so no guitar for me for a few days. Instead I’m reading up on music theory which is something I don’t do nearly enough.
Today I Practiced: Strange Currencies by R.E.M.
Had hoped to post a better version of this, but very tired today, and in the end nothing I practiced sounded good. Frustrating day, but this is practice for you.
Late in the day and a glass or so of wine in didn’t make for the best practice performance, but after a long day is still nice to make music.
Mostly just lost in the sound in the room here, hence a good number of bum notes. And note the terrible increase in speed as I get into it. Top tip: I find leading with the turnaround is a good way to set rhythm and pace, as that’s the fiddly bit.
I learned the riff to this ages ago, but hadn’t realised how fast you have to play it in context, which really changes to you approach this otherwise simple riff. If I do more layered stuff like this I’ll have to move the pedal board or the camera so I can see what I’m playing when I review it :)
This is a stab at the solo section from this one. My mic didn’t plug in properly, so you don’t quite get the tone, but it had lots of lovely sounding double stops in it. This is at the borderline of my skill level I suspect
I’m visiting family for a couple of days, but I still have my guitar with me if I can. I got some play time in over coffee before breakfast.
