Westminster

6 Mar 2007

My legs probably will be glad not to move much today – yesterday was spent mostly on my feet, in various parts of London. Firstly Laura and I were at the connected home show in London on behalf of our respective companies, looking at what new home tech there was (it wasn’t that exciting, with one or two exceptions). Then, after that we were at the House of Commons, at a University of Glasgow Alumni event. I have a pic from across the river (if I was on the correct side of the river the picture wouldn’t have shown the building as well):

The event, wine and nibbles (and standing and smart clothes!), was on the terrace next to the river in a marquee, and hosted by the Conservative MP Liam Fox (alas there was not MPs from other parts of the house that came from Glasgow Uni., although there are such people in both the other main parties). The main purpose of the event was really for the Uni to try and arm twist us into donating, though I found the dude who was giving us the talk to be most patronising/annoying, but perhaps that’s just my reaction to such a type of talk. But, it was worth it to get to see inside the Parliament building. We didn’t get to see the chambers themselves, but we were taken on a brief tour by Liam Fox, including to the 12th century chapel which is not usually shown on tours, and the broom cupboard that was used by Emily Davison. It’s a fairly impressive building, with some amazing architecture, and I must try to and go back to see more of it at some point.
