USB random I/O kits

During a bout of insomnia last night I was pondering that I’d love to have a thing that was like the old BeBox GeekPort – something that would let me have a random collection of digitial and analog I/O ports – but connected over USB, so I could just plug it into my Mac and play with the world. I was pleased to note that such things exist! A US company called Phidgets make a set of USB boards that connect to various I/O options, servo drivers, LCD panels, etc. Excellent stuff. They’re vaguely pricey, at around $100 for the I/O boards, and they don’t appear to ship outside the US, but top stuff – would love to get my hands on some. Oh, and they support Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux – how cool are these guys?
