Up North
Yesterday I ploughed the tarmac from Cambridge to Glasgow, ready for a string of celebrations. One of the advantages of being redundant is that I don’t have to worry about holiday time this December :)
Today my Dad has a special service at his synagog, a mark of his recent conversion to religion (though why he had to pick one that meant you can’t eat bacon sandwiches any more is beyond me…). I’ve been told that the service is two hours long and I have to wear a hat – I was only told that after I’d driven the 350 odd miles I note. My solution to this can be seen here.
Next in the list is the wedding of Jonathan and Deborah on Thursday, for which Laura is coming up to join me. This is a humanist wedding, the first one I’ve been to, so that should be interesting. And hopefully there’ll be a ceilidh – I do like a good ceilidh. Either way, it’ll be fantastic to see J and D tie the knot – they’re both wonderful friends and they make a very good team. I’m also looking forward to having a chance to show Laura around Glasgow a bit and revisiting some of my old haunts.
Finally it’s pseudo christmas. Outside my Dad’s recent conversion we’re a fairly areligious family, so christmas for us is a time to get the family together, share some presents and have a bit of a party over a very long lunch.
In addition to that I hope to be able to catch up with friends whilst up here. It’s always hard to try and fit everyone in when I come back up, and christmas time is always harder still as a lot of people head back to where ever they hale from too. But hopefully I’ll be able to see a few familiar faces before I depart!
