Gymtastic

8 May 2005

When in Glasgow I used to go to the gym two or three times a week, given how handy it was to get to the uni gym from the department. Since moving to Cambridge however I’ve done bugger all. Well, I decided that I really should get back into the habit, and ran in to work last Tuesday. This led to two things: 1) I hurt like hell the next day (exercise has this nice self reproducing property whereby teh first thing you do when you do some exercise is realise you need to do more…) and 2) found out we have a corporate gym membership at work.

So on Friday I went along to The Atrium gym to give it a try, and it’s quite a good place. Well equiped, nicely air conned, and wasn’t too busy at the hour I went. Having decided that I’m going to be getting back into this, I went into town to get some appropriate clothing, and I’ve discovered a whole new concept in clothing - this confused me so much I had to check with google that it was indeed what I suspected it was: running shorts come with built in underwear! Now, I’m sure most of you are laughing at me for being naive, but this confused. I mean, that’s what it looked like, but you didn’t want to look a fool at the gym. But indeed, google provided me with enlightenment. Weirder still is that there are web pages where people argue whether you shoould or should not wear normal underwear with these items too! The things you find on the internet when you look too closely…
