Employment - part 2

4 Apr 2005

More music madness. Well, perhaps not madness, but it makes for nice a nice illiterative hyperbole. Where was I? Oh, yes; the music madness. First up, I finally got around to getting the Kaiser Chiefs current album, Employment. I must admit I got this on the basis that the single from it “Oh My God” is pretty amazing, and they kinda seem from this outing like they’re in a similar basket to Franz Ferinand (who are probably my fave of the current new crop of bands out there). The album is good, but a lot less refreshing than the FF album. Took me a few listens to get into it, but I’m quite enjoying it now. But there’s nothing as catchy as Oh My God on it, and it lacks the distinctiveness of FF. But not bad.

Second up, is something I happened upon by chance, as it was playing in Fopp the other day. The album, called “Cut The Fu*k Up - The Remix Project” by PopChop is a set of hip-hop remixes of 80s songs, with a slight film twist. Top has to be the Eminem/Survior remix, but it also has some good stuff in there like a Public Enemy/Ray Parker Jnr (Ghostbusters) remix, some Beastie Boys, and some Grandmaster Flash, all mixed in with some top 80s film quotes. The version I have is an extended edition, which probably actually just runs on a bit too long, but is definitely worth it if you like hip-hop and remember the 80s with any sense of fondness.
