Gay marriages annuled in California

13 Aug 2004

Looks like Elton John isn’t legally married any more then. California’s state court overruled the authority of San Francisco to issue marriage license to gay couples, and annuled the ones it issued. This seems to me to be a completely daft issue in this day and age, and indeed makes me vexed. If gay people want to get married why should anyone want to stop them? It’s not like it makes marriage any different for the rest of the populous. But it looks like Bush is coming down on this, and trying to get the US constitution changed to outlaw it. At least in the UK things look a bit more progressive.
