Swingshift

18 Jul 2004

I usually listen to Parkie of a Sunday morning, if I’m actually up. This morning I woke up a little early and was subjected to Steve Wright’s Sunday Love Songs show, which is just device to make you want to retch due to it’s excessively sacarine nature. Well, that’s my opinion anyway :) Instead I switch on KCRW (look under the Public catagory in the iTunes Radio section and select KCRW Simucast, or just go to the below URL). From 10 am till 2 pm UK time (2 am till 6 am in Santa Monica) is SWingshift on KCRW, playing lots of good music (that good mix of UK and US tunes that KCRW do so well) with a very tired sounding DJ :) But worth it for the music, which is all top notch. My only complaint would be that the batches of songs are too long, so you can’t remember which one is which when it ends and they read out who was who.

(The DJ this morning was AlyssaBeth Archambault, who was most kind and replied to my spam to the show this morning, recommending (as always) the Dirty Realists, who should have a new album out soon. it seems that SwingShift doesn’t have a fixed DJ, and she’s not on for another two months - I wonder if they take straws at KCRW to see who has to skip on Saturday night partying for the show ;)

On a related note I heard them advertising (pay attention Neil) Sounds Eclectic Three - their third album of tracks recorded on their Morning Sounds Eclectic show. This one seemed to included a good Radiohead track in there. I must find a way of getting the Sounds Eclectic albums in the UK. Their web site just redirects you to amazon.com.
