The bike plan

13 Apr 2004

Something has to be done about the bike problem - you really can’t survive without a bike in Cambridge. But I’ve been torn about what to do regarding a new bike. My old bike was a nice bike from the Edinburgh Bike Co-op, and I got a nice bike because I enjoy riding bikes, and I wanted something rugged enough to go off road (not that I’ve had much chance of late) and light enough that I could carry it and throw it about. But, there’s no where I can keep a bike at the moment other than padlocked in front of the house, and that clearly isn’t the place to keep a good bike. So, to get a nice bike or just a beat up old bike on the grounds that it’s unlikely to get nicked and if it does I won’t mind so much?

Well, I think for now, the plan is to go somewhere in between. For the short term I’ll just get something cheap that goes. something to get me to work and back, nothing more. Then, when we have a better flat, I can get a nicer bike once I have somewhere safer to keep it.
