Old wheels

31 Mar 2004

Today was a first for down here, as I skateboarded and bussed into work. University staff get free transport on the bus that runs between the town centre and the Science campus out where the lab is, so I decided to skateboard into town, given it’s quite nice weather down here at the moment (yesterday I had to use the car’s air-con in March - coming from Glasgow this was a bit of a shock). Anyway, Cambridge isn’t really built for skateboarding, it’s all uneven paving slabs and narrowness, and it’s too flat - there’s not really any hills for you to pick speed up on. It has it’s moments, abusing the cycle lanes to go the wrong way down one way streets probably isn’t legal, but I was pleased to note that the workmen operating manual stop/go signs at some roadworks kindly left it at go for me :) In the end I had to wait ten minutes for the bus, so I’d probably have been best just pushing on under my own power, but there you go.
