IBM have been giving the low down on their next gen POWER architecture, the POWER5. Like the POWER4 it has two processor cores on one chip, but on the POWER5 each of them will support SMT (or Hyper-Threading as Intel like to call it), allowing each core to run two threads at once. It also seems to have some nifty power management stuff on the chip to try and cut down on the heat output of the thing. But look at the size of that thing, pictured in the link below. It’s huge!
