Ge' us a slug o' yer ginger

It’s amazing what you can learn on the web. This month marks the 75th anniversary of the first successful sueing of a company by an individual, based on someone finding a slug at the bottom of their bottle of ginger beer. This case then set the record for all other cases of such laws around the world (one thinks that without this case American society would be quite different :).

Anyway, not only is it interesting for the above reason, according to the beeb, it is also why in Scotland people will ask for a “slug” of your drink, by which they mean a sip/mouthful. I’m not sure I really believe them on this, but it makes for a nice (if slightly disgusting) tale.
