The Killer
Forget Bulletproof Monk, and Anna and the King. Chow Yun-Fat is at his bestin the late 80s/early 90s Hong Kong flicks directed by John Woo. I was delighted to note when I got home last night The Killer was on. Great stuff: CYF is an assassin with a consience, and Danny Lee as the cop after him. Lots of action, lots of soul searching, and a non-happy ending. And bullets, lots of bullets. If you’ve only seen CYF in his Hollywood movies then I recommend trying to find some of the Hong Kong films (A Better Tomorrow is top). The Replacement Killers was as close as he came to this sort of thing in Hollywood, but it’s just a standard Hollywood affair and lacks the character development of the earlier films.
