There’s a really good (if short) article in today’s FT about neighbourhood mailing lists, talking about how email can be used to connect a community that doesn’t otherwise connect much due to people less sociable working lives these days. It’s the kind of article you read where you think “I should do that here!” and then discover that you don’t need to – our area already has an announcement and chat email list on a Histon/Impington community web site. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s much traffic or it’s just dead. In Cambridge this function is provided by the very vibrant cam.misc news group.
