BarCamb 2007
Well, yesterday’s BarCamb event seemed to be a great success. There was a wide range of topics covered, from embedded hardware development all the way through to microformats for annotating the world wide web. Most of the talks had something interesting to offer, including some that I thought would have little to offer me.
Laura’s talk on AlertMe’s ideas and thoughts on home monitoring went down very well. Simon Ford talk on embedded systems development, entitled mbed, was very interesting, and hopefully information on that will become more public in due course so I can write more about it here, but it was very funky. Alexander Griekspoor of mekentosj.com gave a high level introduction to Macintosh development using Cocoa, Apple’s set of development frameworks. James Graham gave a good overview of what’s coming in HTML5 – looks like it’s finally setting into a full document publishing markup language almost akin to LaTeX, and sets standards for doing things like video that are long overdue.
There were many other talks of course, but that’s some of my personal highlights. The Ndiyo talk seemed to go down well, with Q and myself doing a bit of a double act.
Many congrats to Matt Wood for organising the event, it went very well. And Q’s put up some pictures of the day. Roll on BarCamb 2008!
