American Gods
Coming somewhat late to the party, Laura has introduced me to some of Neil Gaiman’s writing, by putting American Gods in front of me. And what an excellent book it is too. Not a book to read at night, as it’s far too gripping to be remotely soporific (this is bitter experience talking here). His writing is a wonder to read, richly written without being arduous to work through – reminds me of Iain M. Banks when he’s on form (e.g., Look To Windward), and whilst the pace of American Gods moves up and down a notch with the flow of the story, it never feels like that to the reader, as even the mundane is interesting in the story.
Now I need to find time to plough through some more of his books that are on the shelves in our house. Just not before going to bed.
