Alternative commutes
Recently I’ve been getting frustrated with my inability to push bike, as it seems to bring on my RSI when I do. Thus I’ve been either burning petrol myself to get to work (which means I get little exercise and pollute), or trying to rely on the Cambridge bus service (which is useless if you require timely service). So I’m looking for alternatives.
I though of recumbent bikes might be a solution, but Laura suggested I also look at recumbent trikes. Indeed, there’s a fascinating range of bikes out there in weird and wonderful configurations, like this Trice T from Inspired Cycle Engineering Ltd.:
Very nice looking, capable of luggage, perhaps just the ticket. But alas, so so expensive :) It would appear that recumbent bikes of any type seem to start around the £1500 mark and go up from there.
Still, there’s a dealer not far from here, so I might go and see. I’d love to try a recumbent just to see what they’re like. Perhaps if the FT is right and the cycle industry is taking off at the car industry’s expense in these days of financial turmoil and high fuel prices then these more esoteric bikes will become cheaper!
