Shiprock
As someone who spent time living in Edinburgh, volcanic plugs are no stranger to me, but Shiprock really stands out being in the middle of an otherwise feature sparse landscape.
This picture follows on from the last picture I posted, in terms of difficulty in the trade-off between focussing on the subject and providing enough of the context that makes the subject interesting without drowning out the subject. In the end ditching the zoom lens and reverting to my 5omm equivalent gave me the right balance.
The other challenge here was the cloud, which was moving fast and casting the rock alternatively in shade and light. Here I got a nice break with enough contrast on the rock to make it interesting without it being dull or oddly lit.
