A close crop of a Red Kite, taken from our weekend away in the countryside near Stamford. We’re used to seeing then around Wales as dots high in the sky, but here just 50 miles from home we found them both a common site and a close one - they’d fly very low over the village where we stayed. Sufficiently close that I got this shot with a 24-70mm zoom - it’s not going to win any nature photography awards, but for a non-telephoto shot it lets me clearly see the markings and that famous tail shape.
