By far, a version of this coffee that I posted back in 2011 is my most viewed photo, by over twice the previous one. At least my second most popular photo is a sort of clip art cliche (which I’ve seen used in lots of websites, despite the no-commercial CC license), so I can understand it being popular, but this photo is just a bit meh, so I don’t understand why it’s so popular.
In the original posting its very dark, and whilst the wood tones on the bench come out nice, it doesn’t flatter the coffee much. So I thought I’d take a quick stab at how I’d process that same raw image today. You can see which you prefer, and decide whether it’s me that’s changed or just the photography fashion in general.
I was amused to note that I had to photoshop out a distracting element (I won’t say what, to save you looking for it) that I must have done in the original also, which surprises me, as I didn’t think I was doing such things back in those early days.
For the record, I mostly drink my coffee black these days, and if I do have milk, there’s definitely no chocolate involved :)
