A decade or so ago the Superlambanana was an icon of Liverpool, but has alas gone away now. At the point this was taken there were a lot of clones made by different communities in different styles, which lead to them turning up all over the city - normally I’d worry about too much of a good thing applying, but it did at least mean there was more of them to photograph :)
I always struggle with sunset colours - camera sunset colours don’t look real and often oversaturated. I do recall this was a very vivid sunset (somewhere back in my Flickr archive is another shot of just the Mersey and The Wirral taken slightly earlier where the sky is just red). I think I just prefer muted colours in photos in general, but you can’t really do this scene muted can you?
Also, I had to do some crazy work to adjust for barrel distortion on this EF-S lens. I had a fancy camera body but was still using the budget lens at the time, and the straight lines in the foreground really did show that.
