Our US road trips were mindblowing, and I’d love one day to go back and fill in the gaps around Utah, but to be honest I’d also be happy to just revisit the paths we did, as there was so much wonder in there that I’m still now reflecting on how lucky I am to have had these experiences, and in particular to have got to share them with someone special.
This is sunset at the Great Sands in Colorado. The landscape to here is perfectly flat for as far as the eye can see to the south and west (almost, there’s a small ridge out there as I look west here), but behind me is a corner of steep mountains that catches all the dust swept off these planes and over the millennia has built up into a set of improbably sand dunes.
I had to do a bunch of work to get this image from being blown out sunset with black all around it, but I think this works well now to capture the scene I remember.
