Early morning sun on a quiet Silver Street.
Originally I intended this to be a black and white shot in the style of Valerie Jardin with the inky foreground shadow, but in the end I went with colour.
Partly this is trying to show Cambridge to others who don't live here what passes as mundane but to outside eyes is interesting, inspired very much by bior's photos of San Jose and the surrounding area, which I love as they're a glimpse into the detail of normal life in that part of the world, and I'm a sucker for the details in pictures like that. But doing that on your home turf is always hard. I walk past this scene weekly, and in the past I did so daily. To me this is a mundane scene, but I imagine to someone who lived all their lives in San Jose it looks very different.
I'm also trying to take advantage of the sun whilst its here. A lot of photography I find interesting, such as the aforemantioned Valerie Jardin, but also several of my Flickr faves I follow, all have this great tonality that comes from having strong natural light. That is not so common in this part of the world, so I need to try shoot it whilst I can.
