Layered Landscape
The Great Sand Dunes of the eponymous National Park are weird (to me) in that it looks like a desert, but is in fact millenniums of dust trapped in a the corner of a set of flat planes. Around you is non-desert, and it messed nicely with my preconceptions of what a desert is. It’s literally a very big sandbox.
I liked this picture as it captures that nature of the desert being in the landscape.
