The view looking east from atop Pike’s Peak. I’m not sure if you can actually see Kansas from here, but it felt like you might be able to.
I didn’t really get any good photos from the peak, which is a shame as the sense of scale is quite impressive - because you’re on the edge of the rockies looking onto a plane you, really do feel the height. But at the same time it really was also a bit vertigo inducing, particularly when you also add in the thin air, which I could feel, and the gusting wind which nearly took my hat. It was quite the sensory experience, which isn’t very good for trying to do composition.
As with the Grand Canyon, getting clear pictures is hard when there’s so much air between you and what you’re looking at - although the Colorado plateau is a mile high, we’re almost another two up at this point.
