In the canyon
We were hugely fortunate to be able to take a helicopter tour of the canyon. I’m a nervous flyer at the best of times, but flying over the lip of the canyon and having the ground drop away by a mile was quite something. Thankfully we had a great and knowledgeable pilot to put us all at ease.
It was only on this tour that the size of the canyon really started to make sense to me, as we actually traversed the great distance. We also got to see down into the bottom of the canyon, where it has a different climate to the sides, and is actually green rather than arid.
This is a terrible shot on one hand, but is a great shot to me as it captures us below the lip, reminding me that we got to go in the canyon a bit, not just see it from above.
