This is the tower at the Cambridge University Library (an interesting institution in its own right), designed by Giles Gilbert Scott. Whilst I knew that GGS had designed some other notable UK buildings, such as Battersea Power Station and Liverpool Cathedral, I didn’t know until researching him for this post that he also designed the red telephone box. As L put it, he clearly was a man who liked vertical rectangular boxes.
For yesterday’s photo/exercise walk I tried something different - I put the X100F into manual focus rather than using auto focus as I would normally. With the subtle focus peaking on the EVF I was impressed with how in focus everything is - if you zoom in on this picture you can resolve the statues at the top and the rope on the flag pole quite readily. At times I’ve felt the AF hasn’t done what I wanted, but I suspect I’m just impatient. But with the MF it means where I really want to nail a particular focus I can.
