I took this quite early on easter Sunday, and although the temperature wasn’t yet warm enough for people to shed their jackets, the sun was out, so time for ice cream.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that when I went out that morning I wasn’t trying to find things that might let me try my hand at Dan Baker’s style of photography. Dan does wonderful vignettes from Cleethorpes, the town in which I was born, and there’s an excellent interview with him on YouTube where he talks about how he spent 5 years just photographing the same stretch of beach front over which his style was developed.
When I go out to take photographs, I often have in mind another photographer that has inspired me, but I generally don’t try to directly copy what they do, rather just hope that it guides me to something interesting that’ll come out in whatever passes for my own style.
