Photography at times sometimes represents an attempt to document something or an attempt to express one’s own artistic idea, and is often times a fuzzy mixture of the two. As such, I’m very weary of photographing other people’s art in my own attempt to create my own documentary art, as I don’t want to be seen as trying to cheat on my own attempt at art.
But sometimes, I hope, it’s okay to document other art in an interesting way?
Here I was drawn in by the organic coils in this wrought metal sculpture by Matthew Lane Sanderson installed in the next village over from ours. So rather than just photo the entire thing (which is beautiful, especially when lit at night like this), I chose to focus on some details that make it so interesting to me, and spent a while trying to get the black and white process to emphasise that which I find interesting.
Perhaps I think too much about these things :)
