I loved the town of Ouray, where we stayed for the night wondering it we’d be able to make it over the mountains the following day due to the snow storms. At dinner that evening we met a couple in a bar who had failed to make it out the day before, but thankfully we were able to get over the pass to Silverton the next day.
The location is amazing, and it’s one of the first places I’ve been to where the main road was solid, and all the other streets were dirt (the first of several as it turned out on that trip).
It all added up to a sense of being somewhere more challenging or frontier than I’d normally end up, which is why I liked it, but I failed to capture that on camera effectively. Up close things looked normal, but the context was unusual (for me), and I wish I’d found a way to record that better.
