Along 16 foot drain
One of the less talked about features of the Fens are the long drain waterways that cut the landscape. This is Sixteen Foot Drain, which runs for twelve miles. It’s quite a weird feature that I enjoy driving alongside: it’s unusual in the UK (at least the bits I visit) to have a feature fun this straight for so long, rather than meandering - it almost feels like something I’d more expect in the US.
When I went for a drive along it yesterday, I stopped at the first bridge over it and saw the sun was just a little off to the left, so took a guess that about 2/3rds of the way along I’d be at the right time to get the sun above the waterway, and it turned out I was about right :)
