Back in 2012, when this was taken, Flat Whites were just a thing in smaller coffee shops, and were my go to beverage. In the US the term hadn’t caught on yet, and not everywhere did a Gibraltar, the closet equivalent I could find, so there was always this little dialog with the barista to work out what drink they served might best be like what I wanted. Four Barrel did a good small cappuccino that hit the spot.
Going back through my old Canon 7D photos this last couple of days I’m amazed by how good some of the detail is (like the foam here) whilst at the same time how bad the low light handling was - there was terrible banding on the back of this cup for instance that thankfully Lightroom could mostly dial out. A nice reminder of how much better newer cameras are at dynamic range.
