A circle of pelicans
It’s funny how certain animals are to some of us run of the mill mundane, yet to others a fascinating discovery. We don’t have pelicans in the UK, so it was great to watch this giant flock at Santa Cruz fishing for their breakfast. I suspect if you had to listen to them every day it might be less great, but that’s the joy of being a traveller :)
I spent a while trying to work out how to use this picture, and in the end I had to be brutal and exclude the bird that was in a dive about to hit the ocean, but was too far away from the circle to make the composition work. I’m not too in love with the ground, but I feel the birds need some form of context for this to work also.
